The story goes, when the maker of ATM machineries, John Shepherd-Barron, calculated the first mechanism, he had kept the pin to be a lengthier six digits – so as to make the mixtures greater and more complex. However, his wife Caroline Murray River was of the estimation that 6 digits are two too many and people would keep overlooking their pins. She herself found it difficult to recollect and hence, he abridged the number down to 4 digits which was outwardly easier to remember! And they say women cannot rule the world, phase!
